Cypress Gardens
way-finding | environmental design |re-branding
The challenge for the Cypress Gardens environmental design project was to develop a wayfinding system that improves visitor navigation without disrupting the park’s natural beauty and historic charm. The goal was to create signage that enhances the overall experience while blending seamlessly into the lush Low country landscape. Cypress Gardens attracts families, tourists, school groups, and nature lovers seeking a peaceful, educational, and scenic escape. The design needed to be intuitive and accessible for a wide range of visitors, from first-time guests to returning locals. The system includes a main street entrance sign, parking lot directory, exterior and interior pedestrian signage, and a cohesive visual language inspired by the park’s flora and waterways. Natural materials, soft greens and browns, and clear, elegant typography were used to ensure legibility without overpowering the environment. By balancing function with subtle, site-specific aesthetics, this project provides clear direction and reinforces the garden’s tranquil identity—making it easier for visitors to connect with nature, history, and each other as they explore.
